One of the funniest scenes in Seattle Opera history was the return of Ferrando and Guglielmo in disguise from Act One of the 2006 Così fan tutte. The production by Jonathan Miller, with costumes by Cynthia Savage and supertitles by Jonathan Dean, set the opera squarely in contemporary Seattle, so these two characters--whom we'd met in Scene One, as uptight bankers--returned disguised as relaxed rocker dudes. Audience laughter threatened to drown out the music, conducted by Andreas Mitisek and ably performed by Richard Stilwell (Don Alfonso), Matthew Polenzani (Ferrando), Christopher Maltman (Guglielmo), Kim Barber (Despina), Alexandra Deshorties (Fiordiligi), and Christine Rice) and the orchestra of Seattle Opera.
