1970 Salome

This Salome was popularly accounted a triumph, due in large part to Klara Barlow’s feline, sensuous performance in the title role. Henry Holt’s conducting earned him the accolade of “one of the best young opera conductors in the business” in The Seattle Times. Phil Stark also won raves as Herod, as did Nell Rankin as a drunken, grape-munching Herodias, and Chester Ludgin as noble, dignified Jokanaan. Greek director Dino Yannopoulos did the staging.
