Earlier in the year, Yugoslavia’s Sarajevo Opera House had received Seattle Opera’s Tosca; to complete the exchange, this production of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece came to Seattle. Sarajevo Opera’s music director, Teodor Romanic, conducted a cast that included the beautiful Milica Buljubasic as Tatiana and Sead Buljubasic as the doomed Lensky. Best of all, according to reviewers, was the rich-voiced Borislav Aleksandrov as Onegin. The standout of Seattle Opera’s English-language cast, conducted by Henry Holt, was tenor Dennis Bailey, who poured his big voice into the role of Lensky.
