Cristina Deutekom, an imposing Norma of “luster and solidity,” according to one reviewer, made a strong impression in her Seattle debut; she was well matched by her Adalgisa, Joy Davidson, and by the stentorian Pollione of John Alexander. The alternate cast also had some big-impact singers, including Marvellee Cariaga and Dennis Bailey. The production took some brickbats in the press, however, for the costuming; Pollione was attired in “gold-painted cowboy boots and a King Tut collar to go with his Roman miniskirt.”
