A Portland Opera production, this
Fidelio showcased their resident team (conductor Stefan Minde, director Ghita Hager) plus the great Brünnhilde of Seattle’s
Ring, Ute Vinzing, as Leonore, and our Siegfried, Herbert Becker, as Florestan in what was assuredly one of the highest-decibel-rated productions in the company’s mainstage history. Audiences gripped their armrests in excitement as Vinzing sailed through “Abscheulicher!” and as Becker’s mighty tenor issued from the dark prison cell.
