Carol Neblett gave Puccini’s Manon Lescaut everything she had in January 1981, which was considerable: sumptuous voice, a great high C, and plenty of interpretive finesse. Conducting this production was Anton Coppola (uncle of the film director Francis Ford Coppola). Walter Cataldi-Tassoni (Rome Opera director, and a former student of Mascagni) was the imaginative stage director.
