The great Canadian tenor Jon Vickers came to Seattle to play one of his signature roles, Peter Grimes, in our only production of the Britten masterpiece.

Archie Drake was cast as himself when he played Captain Balstrode in “Peter Grimes” at Seattle Opera in 1983. A native of Great Yarmouth, England, a few miles up the North Sea coast from Britten’s Aldeburgh, Archie had been in the British navy in World War II and in the merchant marine after that.
