Portland Opera’s Stefan Minde conducted this Salome, starring the glamorous Josephine Barstow, whose remarkable Dance of the Seven Veils was choreographed by local legend Mark Morris, right down to the tiniest of bejeweled G-strings. Emile Belcourt’s Herod was suitably apoplectic. Roger Roloff, Wotan in the Seattle Ring at the time, sang Jokanaan; Geraldine Decker was a mighty Herodias.
