Ewa Podleś won Artist of the Year in 2002/03 for her performance as Adalgisa in “Norma.” Podleś later returned to Seattle to sing Erda and the First Norn in “Der Ring des Nibelungen” and the title role in “Giulio Cesare.” In this recitative, Adalgisa—a Druid priestess sworn to chastity, in love despite herself with the Roman soldier who oppresses her people, prays for protection and solace.
