After conducting the first three performances (Das Rheingold on August 4, Die Walküre on August 5 and 8), Armin Jordan came down with pneumonia. Franz Vote conducted the other performances: Das Rheingold on August 11 and 18, Die Walküre on August 13 (matinee), 16, 19, 22, and 25. Vote then conducted the entire Ring in 2001.
