Parsifal, Wagner’s
Bühnenweihfestpiel or "Stage-Consecrating-Festival-Drama," consecrated the new McCaw Hall stage in 2003. Asher Fisch made his Seattle Opera debut conducting the production, which was directed by François Rochaix and designed by Robert Israel. Seattle Opera’s only production of Wagner’s enigmatic and rapturous swansong used ground-breaking new projection technology and incorporated images familiar to those who live in the western U.S., such as Mt. Shasta and "Stump Lake" (on I-90 east of Snoqualmie Pass) into Wagner’s parable about a sick kingdom in need of healing.
