“There are times when an opera performance comes along just when it is most needed to restore my faith in the art. One such instance is the Seattle Opera’s new production of Tristan und Isolde,” wrote music critic John Ardoin in the August 17, 1998 Dallas Morning News. This legendary production united Jane Eaglen and Ben Heppner, both singing these challenging roles for the first time. Armin Jordan conducted; Francesca Zambello directed a production designed by Alison Chitty. Heppner and Eaglen were joined by Michelle DeYoung as Brangäne, Greer Grimsley as Kurwenal, and Peter Rose (making his Seattle Opera debut) as King Marke.
